MACAC Statement on Anti-LGBTQ+ Legislation

Dear MACAC members,

The Minnesota Association for College Admission Counseling (MACAC) would like to extend a strong message of support to our colleagues, as well as students and families in the states of Florida, Arizona, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and other states that are pursuing anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. As an organization, MACAC firmly believes that legislation like the “Don’t Say Gay” bill signed in Florida is wrong and will negatively impact the lives of LGBTQ+ students, families, and colleagues.

For students who live in states that may be impacted by anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, we understand that they may decide to speak out against these laws through peaceful protests like school walk-outs. MACAC has consulted with member colleges and universities, and those listed below have affirmed that they will not view any discipline from these peaceful protests in any negative way as it relates to admission decisions and ability to enroll.
